90* Love me

We’re a few songs from hitting the 100 on this blog!

And just a few weeks from ending 2015 aswell O.M.G.

Today’s song is the first single of the album I Like It When You Sleep for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It by the greatest band…

The 1975

Featured imageBritish indie-rock band, my favorite combination of course.

Four amazing boys from Manchester who started playing in 2002 and until today have released an homonym album (that it’s flawless and addictive) and are about to premier their second one next year.

The official video of Love me, which is today’s song, has a totally retro style that takes us back to the 80s since it even has that peculiar squared screen format, pastel “vintage” colors, a classical music set with it’s old fashion guitars, brilliant spotlights, girls that look like dolls and don’t get me started on the music with it’s synthesizer sounds.

The lyrics are aimed to reach millenial generation talking about online status, Kardashian looks, selfie’s addiction and more but the whole song seems to come from another age. The peculiar conjuncture of this styles makes it far more interesting to listen to, I swear.

Throughout this video we can appreciate how Matty Healy, the lead voice of the band, who is shirtless, wearing make up and super tattooed, crawls with a bottle of alcohol, licks all he finds, jumps around, spanks a girl, screams like Mick Jagger and does a moon walk like Michael Jackson

The weirdest part though are probably all the pop culture real life size cardboard cutouts that have fun along. We can see Harry Styles, young Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Rita Ora, Charlie XCX but also Mr. Bean, Elvis Presley and what not…

In general there’s no need to enphasize how crazy (yet cool and refreshing) is this video, I mean it even features a selfie-stick, a hot tub and a dancing guitar!!!

At the end I got no doubt that while this seems like mockery it’s actually the sound of (a very pink) revolution. Once again music is telling us to wake up for a change!

…And the revolutionary lyrics:

Hey! Would you like to look outside sometimes? (No!)
I’m just with my friends online and there’s things we’d like to change!
Next thing you’ll find you’re reading about yourself on a plane, fame, what a shame! (Oh!)
Well, just keep looking, looking, looking!

And love me (Yeah)
If that’s what you wanna do (Oh, yeah)

You’ve been reading about yourself on a plane, fame for a change
Caught up in fashion, Karcrashian panache and a bag of bash for passion
You’ve got a beautiful face but got nothing to say (Oh!)
“You look famous, let’s be friends and portray we possess something important
And do the things we’d like”

“We’ve just come to represent a decline in the standards of what we accept!”

Oh so sick off your calendar, give it to the people!
Be the man that gets them up on their feet
Say “Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh”
